Why dictation (听写) works
Every Chinese schoolchild knows 听写: the teacher reads a word, the class writes it from memory. It is the single most direct test of whether a character has actually moved from "recognize" to "can produce" — and it is where heritage-language kids usually discover their gaps. The problem for parents overseas is preparation: you have to read every word aloud yourself, check answers against a list, and repeat tomorrow.
A printed dictation quiz flips that around. The prompt is on the page — the pinyin (or zhuyin) plus the English meaning — so a child can self-test while you cook dinner, and you check answers against the key at the bottom afterwards.
What's on the sheet
Each row prints a numbered prompt — reading + meaning — followed by two empty grids per character, so there's room for a first attempt and a correction. Words stay whole: 明天 is prompted as one item ("míng tiān — tomorrow"), never as two unrelated single characters. Turn the answer key off if you prefer to check against the word list yourself, or leave it on for self-marking.
Pair it with the tracing template for a full cycle: tracing sheet on Monday to learn the words, quiz on Wednesday to test them, and at the weekend tap the characters that went wrong into the mistake book and print a review sheet of just those.
Traditional and zhuyin supported
The 繁體 toggle turns this into a Taiwan-style 聽寫 sheet: zhuyin prompts, traditional answer key, traditional stroke forms. Same two-minute setup, either system.

How does the dictation quiz work?

Can I use my own word list?

How is this different from a tracing worksheet?
Tracing sheets show the characters to copy; the quiz hides them to test recall. Print both from the same list for a learn-then-test cycle.
